Description:

Join a Dedicated Care Team in Wellington – Waking Night Support Worker

Waking Nights | 10:00 pm – 8:00 am

Are you a compassionate, patient and dedicated care professional looking for a rewarding role where you can make a genuine difference?

We are recruiting Waking Night Support Workers to provide personalised overnight support to a young person with complex care needs in their family home. This is an opportunity to build a meaningful relationship with the person you support and help them feel safe, comfortable and valued throughout the night.

About the Person You Will Support

The young person benefits from a calm, consistent and person-centred approach. They communicate primarily through eye gaze, facial expressions, vocalisations and subtle head movements. They are beginning to verbalise more, so staff must be attentive, observant and responsive to their individual communication methods.

They have their own preferences, routines and ways of expressing themselves. Maintaining familiar bedtime routines, respecting their preferred positioning and recognising their individual cues are essential to providing high-quality care.

We are looking for staff who want to understand the person behind the care needs and who recognise the importance of dignity, comfort, choice and consistency.

What Will the Role Involve?

As part of the waking night team, your responsibilities will include:

  • Overnight supervision and reassurance, helping the person remain safe, comfortable and settled.
  • Personal care and continence support, including pad changes, hygiene and monitoring skin integrity.
  • Regular repositioning to promote comfort and reduce the risk of pressure damage.
  • Supporting prescribed positioning and sleep systems in line with the individual care plan.
  • Airway and secretion management, including monitoring breathing and responding appropriately to changes.
  • Suction equipment checks and management, ensuring equipment is clean, functional and ready for use.
  • Medication administration in accordance with the MAR chart, care plan and your training and competency.
  • Recognising and reporting concerns, including changes in breathing, skin condition, comfort or general wellbeing.
  • Accurate documentation, ensuring care provided, observations, equipment checks and concerns are recorded.
  • Working collaboratively with the family and wider care team to maintain continuity and consistency of care.

What Are We Looking For?

We are looking for people who are:

  • Compassionate, patient and genuinely committed to high-quality care.
  • Observant and able to recognise subtle changes in communication, presentation and wellbeing.
  • Reliable, punctual and confident working waking night shifts.
  • Calm and able to respond appropriately in an emergency.
  • Respectful of the person's dignity, preferences, routines and family environment.
  • Confident following detailed care plans and completing accurate records.
  • Willing to undertake all required training and competency assessments.

Experience in complex care, PEG/JEJ medication administration, suctioning, respiratory support or supporting people with communication difficulties would be beneficial. Appropriate training and competency assessments must be completed before staff undertake specialist clinical tasks.

Why Join This Team?

This is more than a night shift. It is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference to a young person's quality of life by providing safe, compassionate and consistent support.

You will have the opportunity to build trust, learn how the person communicates, understand their individual preferences and contribute to a calm and supportive home environment.

Shift pattern: Waking nights, 7 nights per week 10:00 pm – 8:00 am.

If you are caring, dependable and passionate about person-centred care, we would love to hear from you.

Help us find the right people to provide the dignity, kindness, safety and consistency every person deserves.
